The First Boy I Ever Kissed (Coming Jan 2021)

15300

It’s been over two years since Tommy’s heart was broken. Two years since Kim vanished from his life without a word.

Kim was the first boy he’d ever kissed. The only person he’s been in love with. He’d thought they were starting something when he showed his feelings on prom night, and they shared their perfect messy kiss, but he’d been wrong. He never saw Kim again. Until tonight when joy riders crash into the warehouse complex where he’s works.

Kim’s life is a mess. For two years he’s been involved with a criminal gang, trying to protect his mum from harm. He knows he has nothing to offer. But seeing Tommy again gives him the strength to try. If only Tommy wasn’t leaving the day after tomorrow to go traveling around the world. If only tonight wasn’t all they had.

Sometimes There’s Stars

Stars 2

Echo is not a good bet, and graffitiing a missing boy’s face over half of London is the only truly worthwhile thing he’s ever done. Now he’s running from a suspended sentence and trying to pay off a debt that’s about to cripple him, literally. In desperate need of money, he finds himself involved with a drug gang and starts to lose his way. Until he meets Peri.

Peri is like sunshine. He’s innocence and good things—he’s home. Spending time with Peri is saving Echo’s life in so many ways. Peri teaches him sign language, teaches him the important things in life don’t always need words to express them. And more than that, Peri shows him how even the most broken heart can heal.

But Echo is trouble, and the sooner he starts accepting that and staying away from Peri, the less people are going to get hurt.

If only falling in love wasn’t so bloody impossible to stop.

  • One lost soul graffiti artist
  • The sweetest boy ever
  • A whole lot of hurt/comfort and angst
  • Disability and learning difficulties rep

Fight For This (For This #1)

FightforThis-f

Release Date 31st January 2020

Grey and Si have been dancing around one another for months.
Grey’s helpless attraction to fairies (and one fairy in particular) is a source of endless frustration—but as his energy can damage a fairy’s glamour, he can’t let himself get close.
Si is different to other fairies and he’s wearing down Grey’s defences. When Si discovers the Veil is thinning around the school where they both work—putting the students and teachers there at risk from detection—he needs Grey’s help to fix it.
Problem is, Si isn’t a true fairy, he’s just a magical mistake. For as long as he can remember all his glamour has done is messed up and broken stuff. Though Grey maybe older and wiser about a lot of things in the human world, he’s pretty clueless about all things magical. He doesn’t even know the Veil exists until Si knocks himself unconscious trying to save Grey’s reputation after a night out.
But it’s funny how mistakes work out. Even funnier how trusting one another can help even the most impossible events turn out all right.

Everybody in the Place

before

Published 3rd October 2019 (First published in the charity anthology ‘Hot Summer Nights’ in June 2019)

Alfie Adams comes at life sideways.
After unexpectedly losing his job in television, and having the script he’s worked so hard on unceremoniously dropped, Alfie turns up at his oldest friend, Jam’s, birthday party drunk, pretty sure his world has ended, and that he’s about to hit rock bottom with a bone-cracking thud.
But it’s funny how Jam’s little brother, Benji, seems to know exactly what Alfie needs. For the past twelve months Alfie has thrown himself into his job and tried hard not to think about beautiful punk-loving Benji—tried not to see how the sweet kid he used to look out for, and who used to trail so adoringly after him, has grown up into a big lad with an even bigger heart. As Alfie sobers up, he begins to see things with a new perspective, and Benji has his full attention.
If only Alfie can admit what it is he wants.

Resized

Second edition published 22nd August 2019

Christopher is restless and longs for something he cannot name. His mother vanished when he was very small and after spending more than ten years travelling on the rivers and canals, drifting between towns and schools, with mostly only his dad and brother, Jay, for company, he is desperate to escape that claustrophobic existence.
Just before Christopher’s eighteenth birthday, they return to Arlow, a town they haven’t been back to in over a decade, and everything changes.

Malachi has given up on love. He lost his heart when he lost his innocence. Now at twenty nine he just exists–getting drunk, fixing cars and playing the music he loves.

When their paths cross one night at a gypsy camp, Christopher thinks he’s found what he’s been looking for, but Malachi is afraid. He is afraid their love will destroy everything Christopher has ever known. They are both ghosts from one another’s past, and if Malachi’s secrets are revealed more than just innocence will be lost in their wake.

Rainbow Awards 2014 Winner Best Gay Debut

When fifteen-year-old Romeo’s mother leaves one day and doesn’t return, he finds himself homeless and trying to survive on the streets. Mute and terrified, his silence makes him vulnerable, and one night he is beaten by a gang of other kids, only to be rescued by a boy who pledges to take care of him.

Julian is barely two years older than Romeo. A runaway from an abusive home, he has had to make some difficult choices and sells himself on the street to survive. Taking care of Romeo changes him, gives him a purpose in life, gives him hope, and he tries to be strong and keep his troubles with drugs behind him. But living as they do is slowly destroying him, and he begins to doubt he can be strong enough.

This is the story of their struggle to find a way off the streets and stay together at all costs. But when events threaten to tear them apart, it is Romeo who must find the strength within himself to help Julian (and not let their love story turn into a Shakespearean tragedy).

Honorable mentions for This is Not a Love Story from this year’s Rainbow Awards (2014)

“Hard topic beautifully written. This is a love story that works on many levels–it’s true to life, tough, harsh, and yet hopeful. It made me think, but most importantly it made me feel. A marvelous debut novel.”

“This is truly a gripping story of teenagers—one mute with an artistic gift, one damaged inside but with a beautiful  spirit—but this is NOT a teenage story.  There are tears, abuse, homelessness, grief, loss, more loss, and then. .  .well, it is not a love story, but it IS a story about love.  And sacrifice.  And where home really is.”

“I just couldn’t find anything that didn’t deserve the highest rating. This is a book that will stay long with you after you finished reading it. Usually I am not such a happy end person, but for these characters I desperately needed a happy end – anything else would have been devastating. Luckily I have no experience with homelessness, but to me the descriptions of their struggles felt real and I was caring deeply for the characters – not only for the main characters Romeo and Julian, but also for the ones they meet on their way. Books like these are the reason why I love participating in the Jury of the Rainbow Awards so much, because I don’t know if I would have otherwise found and read this book.”

Raw, painful, sometimes difficult to read but also fully engaging in its characters and their struggles.

This book captivated me from the first page. The writing, characterization and plot drew me in and kept me invested until the very last page. I loved this book.

I really enjoyed “This Is Not a Love Story.” It was the first Harmony Ink Press book I read, and it introduced me to “The Glass House” and “Slaying Isidore’s Dragons.” Both really good reads. Thanks for writing! ♥
